URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Partial relocation from student residence halls

Due to the extraordinary situation caused by the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the activities of Silesian Voivodeship authorities are inevitable intended to use the student residence halls of Silesian universities as facilities for people in quarantine.

I address those of you who can go home to do it as soon as possible, ideally tomorrow morning (Tuesday, 17 March 2020). We will continue to provide students who cannot go home with accommodation, but please note that you may be temporarily moved to a different room, or even to a different location.

Any personal items left will be secured under supervision and deposited. If possible, please secure your property, using cardboards and bags which we will provide to anyone interested.

Please contact urgently the administration of your student residence hall to arrange and plan all necessary details.

The students who left their room due to suspension of classes, leaving their personal items, will not have to pay any charges starting from 17 March 2020. The same applies to the students who had to check out due to the re-housing. Any personal items left will be secured under supervision and deposited.

Information on operation of student residence halls (dorms) during the period of suspension of classes

The student residence halls (dorms) of the University of Silesia will operate during the period of suspension of classes, but their availability will be limited. The (reduced number of) administration employees will be available for the residents who have to stay in student residence halls.

Due to the constantly increasing risk of COVID-19 spread, it is recommended that all those who can go home during the suspension of classes should leave the student residence halls. You can either check out or deposit your personal items.

Those who cannot go home may be requested to move to a different student residence hall or room. The residents who stay in the student residence halls should be aware that in the case when a person living in their student residence hall is suspected to be infected, the sanitary authorities may take the appropriate action, including quarantine for the entire building.

No new residents can be checked in and all visits are forbidden.

The problem of payment for accommodation in student residence halls during the suspension of classes will be resolved in detail soon. It has been currently adopted that if you have accommodation in a student residence hall for the whole academic year, and you left without checking out, you will continue to pay for the student residence hall in line with the existing rules. If the exam session is extended and classes are conducted in the summer period which lasts longer than 10 months of accommodation in the student residence hall, you will not have to pay the accommodation fees.

If the situation changes, the information will be updated on an ongoing basis.
