Studenci zagraniczni (International students)

Currently, all international air and rail connections are suspended. There are border controls at the borders. Road traffic from Poland is open. You can leave Poland by car or bus. You can find all the current information on the functioning of the University of Silesia on an internet page dedicated to coronavirus. The website's subpages are being translated consecutively in English.

If you want to return to your home country, please contact the embassy or consulate of your country in Poland. Many countries organize special flights for their citizens who want to return to their home country.

Before leaving Poland, remember:

 

• to notify your academic coordinator at the University of Silesia - you can finde the list HERE
• to notify the International Exchange Office, tel. +48 32 359 1178, e-mail: erasmus@us.edu.pl
• to arrange all formalities in your dormitory or other place of residence
• to notify your home university about shortening of your stay and get information
• about the formalities you have to complete.
• after returning to your home country, you may be quarantined.

The University of Silesia is in the process of preparing an offer of e-learning classes for students that will replace classes implemented in the standard mode.

You can find here information about the e-learning tools offered by the University of Silesia, e-learning support tools, access to databases, set of good practices related to creation of e-learning courses and use of distance learning.

The rules of obtaining credits and conducting semester exams will depend on how long the epidemic threat will last and the related restrictions in the functioning of the university. Consult your academic coordinator about your Learning Agreement and your study plan.

The validity of student IDs has been automatically extended to May 31.

Due to the extraordinary situation caused by the spread of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the authorities of Silesian Voivodeship are going to use student residence halls of Silesian universities for people in quarantine. The situation is the same across the whole of Poland.

At this moment, the following student residence halls may potentially be used for quarantine purposes in the future:

 

• UŚKA Cieszyn
• DS2 Katowice-Ligota
• DS4 Sosnowiec

Students staying in those dormitories needed to be rehoused. 

The student residence halls will be designated for quarantine, for example for people returning from abroad, and not for hospitals. The quarantine facilities will be secured and guarded, and people staying in them will be under medical care and will not go outside.

Students staying in other student residence halls can stay, for the time being, in their rooms, and no additional students will be accommodated there, unless absolutely required. Any personal items left will be secured under supervision and deposited. According to the Rector's ordinance, visitors are not allowed in dormitories.

In response to the extraordinary circumstances related to the spread of virus SARS-CoV2, the Student Service Centre at the University of Silesia in Katowice has provided the possibility of psychological consultations for foreign language students.

This applies to all students who are currently taking part in student exchange programmes at the University of Silesia, especially those who are in a difficult position due to the current epidemiological situation.
Psychologists will be available via SKYPE.

Technical requirements:

1. You need access to the Internet from a mobile device on which you have a SKYPE account.
2. Use headphones with microphone and camera for a better quality of connection.
3. The quality of Internet connection and details related to software settings may affect the quality of connection, which is why we recommend running a sound test before the consultations (in line with the software distributor guidelines).

If for any reason you cannot take part in consultations during the hours stated above, but your situation is difficult and you need to talk, please write to psycholog@us.edu.pl. You will arrange the meeting date together.
